A Timeless Classic: The Alfa Romeo GTV 2000
The Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 is a true classic in the automotive world, and this 1974 model is one of a kind. The GTV 2000 stands for Gran Turismo Veloce which was a popular model manufactured by Alfa Romeo from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. It was known for its sporty and sleek design, as well as its powerful twin-cam engine that produced 130 horsepower. This particular model, which was the last year of production for the U.S. market, is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful coupes to come out of a Milanese factory. The GTV 2000 has always been a favorite among car enthusiasts, and it’s not hard to see why.
The combination of its powerful engine, agile frame, and beautiful styling creates a truly special driving experience. Even if internal combustion wasn’t always present, that was only extra Alfa flair. This car is an embodiment of everything that an Alfa Romeo enthusiast could want in a sports car, and it’s no surprise that this model has such a strong following even today. The car that is up for auction on “Bring a Trailer” is a true masterpiece, thanks to the work of UK-based firm Alfaholics. Alfaholics is a family-run business that specializes in creating the finest Alfa Romeos around.
A Brief History of the GTV 2000
The company was founded by Richard Banks, who purchased the original Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2.0L GTV in the United Kingdom in 1977 so he could compete in the British Production Saloon Car Championship. The automobile had excellent performance and handling, Banks purchased and updated a used 2000 GTV as a side business to help pay for the racing. It was sold the same day his local newspaper ad was published. More than 40 years later, Banks and his two sons, who are both race car drivers and skilled lawyers, managed a family business that specializes in building the best Alfa Romeos available. This 1974 GTV2000 was bought by “Bring a Trailer” two years ago, and it was immediately sent to Somerset for the whole Alfaholics makeover using the business’s GTA-R upgraded package.
Some features include a handbuilt 2.1L twin-cam four-cylinder engine with about 230 horsepower, a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission, extensive light weighting from lighter glass to carbon-fiber bodywork, six-piston front brakes, as well as a suspension containing a truck-load of titanium. This GTV is intended for enthusiastic drivers even though it was created using lessons learned on the racetrack. However, a detailed examination of the undercarriage reveals considerable oxidation of the titanium parts, and there are a few irregularities in the paint job. This 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 is a true masterpiece of engineering and design. The combination of its powerful engine, agile frame, and beautiful styling creates a truly one of a kind vehicle. The work of Alfaholics has taken this classic car to the next level, making it a true representation of the Alfa Romeo spirit and essence. Interested in finding out more about Alfa Romeo?
